F1 World Champion
Former Formula One racing driver and 2016 Formula One World Champion, Nico Rosberg is the son of Finnish 1982 world champion Keke Rosberg. He was born in Germany and has dual nationality and drove for Williams F1 and Mercedes AMG Petronas under the German flag. Rosberg is, to date, the only driver other than Hamilton and Vettel to have won the Formula 1 title in the 2010s. He is the second second-generation Formula 1 champion, after Damon Hill, and the first to have achieved this feat during his father’s lifetime. Additionally, Rosberg is the first driver representing Germany to have won the title for a German team using a German-manufactured engine. Rosberg won the International Racing Driver Award at the 2016 Autosport Awards. The award was first won by his father Keke in 1982. He announced his immediate retirement from Formula One on 2 December 2016 at the FIA Prize Giving Ceremony in Vienna, having reached the ‘pinnacle’ of his career.
