Graham Poll is said to be the best known and most experienced English football referee of all time. His achievements are considerable, including refereeing the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium in 2000 and being the first person to referee 300 Premier League matches. An excellent communicator and presenter, Graham had a successful career in the FMCG marketplace alongside his refereeing career. He left full time employment in 1999 to devote more time to achieving world recognition in football, starting his own business with fellow international referee, Graham Barber. Together they developed an internet site which they sold for £1.5million in 2001 when Graham became a full time professional referee. It is often more effective to manage rather than govern when in charge. There is no point in setting rules that are unreasonable as they will not be up held by those responsible. Those responsible for regulating must be consulted when deciding on what rules to implement. Regulators must be backed up by their employers when they implement the rules.
